This idea came to me after attending so many funerals in just a short time after retiring back to our roots in the South. I must have gained 10 pounds in two weeks. While many recipes here will come from "The South" it is my intent to canvas the country. It matters not which part of America you are in. If you have a great funeral and a super recipe to die for, send it or try to encourage the creator to send it in.
INTENTIONS FOR THE BOOK:
1. A certificate will be sent to those who provide recipes - to share with their church or community.
2. I hope to visit some of the churches and photograph the church and cemetery as a reflection of the community.
3. I hope to track all church addresses (towns) and include marketing avenues so the churches or clubs involved can participate in sales and earn income for their own special fundraisers.
4. Example: With publish on demand - I may be able to set up specific orders for specific groups and allow them to take the majority of the profit into their own accounts automatically - if not through bookkeeping.
5. I hope each contributor can provide a quality photo of the finished dish or a photo as it is in preparation. So it would be good to have not only a picture of the dish but also the church or town and the cemetery - all quality pictures - by someone skilled in photography (who will receive credit for the photos - but not payment).
6. A FACEBOOK fan page for the blog/book in progress - will make it easy to share with your friends who may have a recipe to contribute.
7. The blog will contain the recipes FOR FREE in advance of the publication of a hard copy. All the editing and photos and story telling that go with the recipes will - we hope - make the book a good choice for purchase.
9. Speaking of the "story that goes with it". The whole concept of the book depends on short stories after the presentation of the recipe that will give some flavor of the meal at which it was served. I think using first names is probably the best approach here for privacy's sake. But heartwarming stories of some of the people including were appropriate the deceased - will bring a "flavor" of the town or region and community to the book. It is probably a critical part of the whole book. The recipe is one thing. The human story of food and sharing it with friends is another - altogether.
